Lady Problems Hackathon - Buenos Aires

Se habla mucho sobre la falta de mujeres en el sector tecnológico, pero ¿Qué las mantiene afuera? “The Lady Problem” es una serie global de Hackathon presentada por AngelHack, y Buenos Aires tendrá su edición.

La serie global de Hackathones “The Lady Problem” ha sido creada para dar respuesta a esa pregunta. Planteamos un desafío a nuestra comunidad de más de cien mil mujeres y hombres, que son desarrolladores, diseñadores, emprendedores, con la finalidad de crear tecnologías para resolver el problema que previene el emprendimiento femenino.

¡Por supuesto, todos los hombres son bienvenidos!

¿Por qué es un problema?

Las mujeres representan la mitad de la población mundial, reinvierten el 90% de sus ingresos en sus familias y comunidades, pero solamente ganan el 10% de los ingresos mundiales. Estudios han expuesto que avanzar en la equidad en las mujeres puede agregar entre 12 y 28 mil millones de dólares al crecimiento económico global.

De acuerdo a ONU Mujeres, las empresas con 3 o más mujeres en funciones de alta dirección alcanzan una mayor cantidad de puntos en efectividad organizacional, tan solo el 4% de las compañías en el listado de las 500 empresas estadounidenses con mayor volumen de ventas, según la revista Fortune, son lideradas por mujeres. En el sector de las startups se repiten los mismos resultados, en un análisis del portafolio de 300 compañías de First Round Capital se destaca que de los últimos 10 años los equipos de startups con al menos una mujer fundadora se desempeñaba un 63% mejor que los equipos conformados por sólo hombres, aún así sólo el 4% de las mujeres son respaldadas por instituciones de capital de riesgo.

Está comprobado que invertir en las mujeres crea un mejor mundo, y que no están ni un poco cerca de conocer su potencial. Entonces ¿Qué podemos hacer para resolver estos problemas?

Desarrollar una solución que ayude a las mujeres a acceder a recursos para asegurar que tengan carreras exitosas, independientemente de si deciden tener hijos o no.

Hackear una solución que garantice seguridad a las mujeres cuando se desplazan o están en sus centros laborales y de regreso a casa.

Crear una solución que ayude a las mujeres a tener acceso a recursos económicos, capacitación y ayuda necesaria para hacer crecer sus negocios.

Desarrollar una solución que ayude a las mujeres a tener éxito, sentirse confiadas en sus centros laborales y respaldadas en su carrera profesional por su familias y comunidades.

Aceleradora del bien social: El equipo ganador de cada ciudad será inscrito en el primer programa de aceleración social de Angel Hack, con una mentoría de 12 semanas y un programa de aceleramiento.

Women Who Code: El equipo ganador de cada ciudad tendrá una mención destacada en el boletín global “Applaud Her” de la publicación CODE Review.

Reto:
El mejor uso de HPE Haven OnDemand en cualquiera de los desafíos principales del hackathon Lady Problems.

Premio:
El equipo ganador de este reto recibirá lo siguiente:

• Una invitación para promover su app o solución y decirle al mundo cómo están confrontando un problema para las mujeres en el blog y grupo de LinkedIn de HPE Haven OnDemand, con una promoción a través de varios canales de social media de HPE.

• Serán registrados como candidatos para un futuro artículo de prensa y podrían también participar en una producción de vídeo.

Códigos Pre-Hechos:

Puedes comenzar a trabajar en tu propuesta antes del evento. Puedes presentar proyectos preexistentes, pero deben ser relevantes con los retos del Hackathon. También deberás hacer una demostración en persona o vía Google Hangout en el Hackathon.

Recomendamos principalmente que todos los participantes asistan al Hackathon en persona, para conocer a otros hackers y obtener información valiosa sobre cómo crear productos por parte de nuestros patrocinadores.

Propiedad:

Los equipos son propietarios de todo lo que construyen en nuestros eventos y son libres de hacer lo que deseen con sus productos.

Tamaño del equipo:

Están permitidos los equipos con un máximo de 5 Personas. Puedes agregar un Cyborg, Furby, drone o Sphero.

Inscripción del proyecto:

Cada hackathon tiene su página individual en hackathon.io donde los proyectos deben registrarse. Los registros se realizarán después de 24 horas de hacking puro.

Muestra tu Hack:

Debes realizar una demo de tu hack para poder presentar. No se aceptarán presentaciones con diapositivas o Powerpoint. Tendrás 2 minutos para presentar y un minuto para responder preguntas del jurado, la presentación se hace en el evento en persona o vía Google Hangout.

Código de conducta:

Deberás acatar el código de conducta. Tenemos una política de cero tolerancia al acoso. Si estás haciendo sentir a otros inseguros de cualquier forma, te sacaremos del Hack. Fin de la historia.

Seamos honestos, puedes hacer mejores cosas que Powerpoints. ¡La forma en que rockeamos es sólo con demos en vivo! Sin excepciones. Para ganar un hackathon de AngelHack tienes que hacer una demostración de tu producto por al menos 30 segundos, y no más de 2 minutos. No te preocupes si tu proyecto no está al 100% perfeccionado. Los proyectos serán juzgados con base a los siguientes criterios:

Impacto: ¿Qué tan impactante será tu solución para el público objetivo? ¿Es escalable?

Creatividad: ¿Qué tan original es la solución?

Diseño: ¿Qué tan bien diseñada esta tu solución, desde el Front End hasta la experiencia de usuario e interfaz de usuario?

Ejecución: ¿Qué tan bien ejecutada es esta solución desde el comienzo hasta el final?

Relacionados con el reto: ¿La solución es relevante relacionada los problemas de mujeres emprendedoras en salud, educación, seguridad y cultura?

¿Cómo se conforman los equipos?

Los equipos pueden formarse antes del evento en hackathon.io, a través de una comunidad del evento en slack o en el las instalaciones de JP Morgan Chase en 955 Belgrano . En cada hackathon se proveen actividades para crear equipos y para hacer networking.

¿Qué debo construir?

¡Déjate guiar por tu instinto! Usualmente nos gusta ver proyectos que son innovadores y que tienen el potencial para mejorar o incidir en las vidas de la gente. Trata de construir una solución que la gente pueda usar, disfrutar y potencialmente escalar. Lo más importante es que te diviertas y trates de terminarlo a tiempo. Sabemos que puedes hacer mucho en tan solo 24 horas, así que está bien si tu proyecto no es perfecto, aún.

¿Habrá viaticos?

Desafortunadamente no proveemos viáticos para esta serie de hackathon.

¿Necesito asistir de forma presencial?

Te recomendamos que asistas al evento de manera presencial. Si no puedes venir, tienes permiso para realizar tu pitch via Google Hangout en la ciudad más cercana, pero deberás registrar el proyecto en hackathon.io en esa ciudad aproximadamente a las 13 hrs. (hora local) para poder participar y deberás indicar en la descripción del proyecto que realizarás tu pitch vía Google Hangout. Por favor revisa la página del evento para conocer la hora exacta de registros.

We talk a lot about the lack of women in technology. What’s keeping them out? The Lady Problem Global Hackathon Series, presented by AngelHack, is launching in a city near you!

The Lady Problems Global Hackathon Series is setting out to answer that question. We’re challenging our community of 100,000+ women and men, developers, designers, entrepreneurs to create technology that will address the problems that prevent female entrepreneurship.

And course, male allies are welcome too!

Why is this an issue?

Women represent half of the global population, reinvest 90% of their income into their families and communities, but earn just 10% of the world’s income. Studies have shown that advancing women’s equality can add between $12-28 trillion to global economic growth.

According to UN Women, companies with 3 or more women in senior management functions score higher in all dimensions of organizational effectiveness, yet just 4% of Fortune 500 companies are led by women. In startup-land, you’ll find the same results. First Round Capital’s analysis of 300 portfolio companies over ten years showed that startup teams with at least one female founder performed 63% better than all male teams, yet around only 4% of women are backed by VC funding.

It’s proven that investing in women creates a better world, and yet they’re not even close to meeting their potential. So what can we do to solve these problems?

Hack a solution that will help women access health resources to ensure that they can have successful careers, regardless of whether or not they choose to have children.

Hack a solution that ensures that women can be safe when they go to, are at, and come home from work.

Hack a solution that helps women gain access to the financial resources, training and support they need to grow their businesses.

Hack a solution that helps women succeed and feel confident in the workplace and that they are supported in their careers by their families and communities.

Social Good Accelerator: The winning team from each city will be inducted into AngelHack’s first-ever social good accelerator, a 12-week mentorship and acceleration program.

Women Who Code: The winning team from each city in an Applaud Her spot in the CODE Review, a featured placement in their global community newsletter.

Not-So-Fresh Code:
You are welcome to start working on your hack before the event. You can present pre-existing projects, but they must be relevant to the hackathon challenges. You also must demo live at the hackathon on Sunday in-person, or via Google Hangout.

We highly encourage all participants to attend the hackathon in-person, to meet other like-minded hackers and gain valuable insights from our sponsors about building amazing products!

Ownership and IP:
Teams have full ownership of everything they build at our events and are free to do with it as they wish.

Team Size:
Teams of up to 5 humans are allowed. You can also add 1 Cyborg, Furby, drone, or Sphero.

Submission:
Each hackathon has its individual hackathon.io page, which projects should be submitted on. Submissions take place after 24 hours of pure hacking.

Demo Your Hack:
You must demo your hack in order to present. No slide-decks or Powerpoint will be allowed. Two minute presentation and one minute Q&A from Judges, live during the event in-person or via a Google Hangout.

Code of Conduct:
You must abide by the Code of Conduct. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment. If you’re making others feel unsafe in anyway, we’ll kick you out. End of story.

Let’s be honest, y’all can do better than Powerpoints. Which is why we rock with live DEMOS only! No exceptions. To win an AngelHack hackathon, you will have to demo your product for at least 30 seconds, but no more than 2 minutes. Don’t worry if your project is still not 100% perfected. Projects will be judged based on the following criteria:

Impact: How impactful will this solution be for its target audience? Is it scalable?

Creativity: How original is this solution?

Design: How well designed is this solution, from front end through to UI/UX?

Execution: How well executed is this solution from start to finish?

Related to Challenge: Is the solution relevant to the themes of lady problems around supporting female entrepreneurs through health, education, safety and culture?

Who is attending?
Anyone and everyone! Our attendees typically consist of junior developers looking to improve their skills, senior developers looking to expand their horizons, designers of all skill-sets, and serious entrepreneurs that can add value to teams. Bring your idea and let’s go! If hackathon has sold out, we’ll allow in those with tickets first, and waitlisters IF there is still room.

How are teams formed?
Teams can be formed prior-to the event on hackathon.io, via a dedicated event slack community, or onsite at the event. Team-building activities and networking will be provided at each hackathon.

What should I build?
Let your gut guide you! We usually like to see projects that are innovative, and have the potential to improve or influence people’s lives. Try to build a hack that people can use, enjoy, and potentially scale. Most importantly, have fun with it and try to finish on time. We know you can only do so much in 24 hours, so it’s ok if your project is not perfect (yet).

Are there travel stipends?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide travel stipends for this series.

Do I need to attend in-person?
We strongly recommend that you attend the event in person. If you cannot attend, you are allowed to pitch via a google hangout in the city nearest to you, but you must submit a project to hackathon.io in that city by approximately 1pm local time to be eligible and indicate in your project description that you will pitch via the Google Hangout. Please check your event page for the exact submission time.
